Geologist Johnny ‘Rocket’ Tesone on What would aliens look like? This is a question that most people ask themselves.

Throughout science fiction books, movies, and comics, people have been treated to an endless menagerie of alien beings taking many forms. In the old days, budget constraints for films and TV intended what aliens looked at least a tiny human.

In modern times, computer effects and CGIs have made things a bit more bizarre. However, most aliens have portrayed something people can comprehend or relate to, at least on a fundamental level.

It’s all indicative of human’s intense curiosity as to what alien life would look like. If a spaceship came down next week and opened a door, what would step out? Would it be something like us or something beyond anything humans have ever imagined? It’s the latter, I assure you.

You see, it is a question we have no way to answer. But, if we were to meet aliens, what could we expect them to look like? What form would they take, and how would they engage with the world around them? The answers to these questions seem to be as varied as the humans who contemplate the question, and there are a few ways that the discussion can head.

However, there have been some speculations on the appearances of aliens, and here’s what geologist Johnny ‘Rocket’ Tesone thinks.

“I consider the word alien to reference all manner of life, as we know it on Earth, resident in places apart from Earth. Therefore, there’s currently no wide consensus on the definition of “life.” It’s a highly complex concept. However, if we discovered bacteria somewhere apart from Earth, I would consider that as alien life.

The universe is composed of billions of galaxies, each of which could be composed of hundreds of billions of stars. Moreover, many of those stars have at least one planet each. Those planetary systems create a rich combination of elements with a great water source critical to which includes all the aspects considered as essential for life.” 

Therefore, it is very tough to believe that the particular combination of conditions, which resulted in “life” only happened on Earth and not on the trillions of other planets in the universe.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether that life is like bacteria or a technologically advanced civilization” that humans can communicate with. Still, first, we must recognize their forms as we uncover more evidence in the Earth’s geologic record.

A substantial effort is underway to look for alien civilizations that might be using similar technologies to us, like powerful radio telescopes transmitting radio wavelength, or is it an optical, quantum network of code from distant planetary systems? They could have advanced intelligence and use telepathy to connect, and we would never know about it.

What’s more, it is also possible that human’s definition of life might turn out to be narrow and that Aliens—no matter where they are—might play by a different set of quantum physics and mechanical rules – an alternative nature.

What Will Aliens’ Lives Be Like?

The puzzle is to think about how aliens live. What do they need? The first thing is how they consume energy from any planet environment, in the rock matrix, in the water, through the air over time as an infinite life form until their resources are exhausted. Earth may well be the best space harbor for Aliens because of our vast oceans and Earth’s core energy.

After all, all life requires energy, and energy comes from several sources on Earth and from consuming other creatures. The life cycle is complicated when there are so many energy fluxes with pure minerals, gravity, magnetics combined with the tremendous geological forces of time.

Plants consume sunlight, but animals consume other plants and animals, and all animals have known defense mechanisms, so Aliens may have predators and perhaps are cannibalistic. Aliens could be like predators on Earth: stealthy and lighting fast, but humans are not their prey, rest assured.

Further, the prey will need to protect, conceal themselves: by armor or camouflage or cloaking by warping matter through time and space. Perhaps, like on Earth, the creatures will solve their concerns in a unique way, possibly hidden altogether. Other aliens will become solitary, with only a few social or they will let humans finally unearth their story.

How Will Aliens move? 

Indeed, if somebody will consume you, you’d better move. They’d better move to catch you. However, not all creatures should move (for example, plants don’t), but some inevitably will.

So, how can you move? You can move through a gas or liquid, like birds or fish. Or you can also impact on a solid surface (like crabs and dogs). Perhaps you can move through solid Earth, but that’s simple. However, if you are driving on a solid surface, there is so much friction that you need to lift yourself a little more. That is either through legs or slime like a slug uses. Take note that legs are beneficial and are bound to be seen on lots of other planets.

If you move through a liquid or gas, you have more choices. However, fins and wings are an excellent option, and jet propulsion, like a rocket engine, is the most efficient if the technology can be understood.

How About Their Forms? 

Life on our planet started in the ocean, adapted on the surface, so our ancestors crawled too. But understanding Alien from crawling, swimming walking means you need to have a back and a front, meaning you have a right and left side as well.
